If you are using it in soft soil I suggest you do what I did and extend the base my attaching some spikes made from angle metal to the legs as it makes the whole thing more secure.   Ok. Quite expensive for what it is but one of the only products I found that was 6ft tall. The rather uneven / inconsistent cut and quality of wood used to make the 4 panels makes it quite hard to align nicely - mine turned out not to be quite square at the bottom. It would be better if the holes were predrilled and a more consistent / better cut and quality of wood used. Looks nice when painted and put in place though.

  This obelisk is sturdy and tall. The problem is finding a way to fix it into the ground securely especially in the recent windy weather. We are still trying to decide whether to remove the bottom cross pieces and dig the legs deep into the ground or to get hooks like tent pegs to fix them in place. Also some of the nails provided to put the obelisk together were too short.

  Very happy with it and want to buy a second one when production starts again. Easy to put together by one person using a wheelie bin for support! Instructions refer to pre-drilled holes which were not there but probably better you drill your own anyway to get them exactly right. Would happily paid a little more for slightly more substantial wood but sturdy anyway. To protect the bottom I fixed short sacrificial legs to concrete into the ground (ONE GARDEN COMMENT: The "pre-drilled holes" reference on the instructions relates to those created by the customer, therefore you were correct to create these during the build process as directed.)

  I bought 2 x 6 ft obelisks, they are very thin and there are no instructions apart from leaving them for one month before using. I did phone and spoke to a gentleman who didn’t know if the earth would rot the legs. We used cable ties to hold the sides together and give stability as well as the screws. I am not recommending this product. (ONE GARDEN COMMENT: Thank you for your review, we regret to hear this item failed to satisfy you. In response and to address your concerns; (1) the instructions were received by you (as the "one month" statement you mention is stated on them), (2) you can use the product on receipt, the "leaving for one month" reference relates to not re-treating for the first month to allow the pressure treatment to season/settle, (3) we have no call recorded, however the item should be stood onto earth, if you sink it into the ground even pressure treated timber will eventually degrade/rot, (4) we feel the fixing method is appropriate and would not recommend cable tie use.)

  I bought 2 of these as ornamental supports for runner beans and sweet peas. I am pleased with my purchase - they look nice and seem strong enough for the job. The instructions say that 2 people are needed for assembly. That would help for the first fixing but not necessary after that - I actually had no difficulty assembling by myself on a firm, level base. The wood into which the screws are fixed is quite narrow so I was a bit worried that it would split. I think it is important to drill pilot holes as specified in the instructions. Doing that I had no problem with splitting, so no problems in assembly.
