Description
The Zest 1m Veg Bed has a manger style design and is ideal for gardens with small spaces or for those wanting to start growing their own produce.
The 1m Veg Bed can hold up to a maximum of 225 litres of compost. It's raised to protect your crops from pests, as well as to enable you to work without the need to stoop or bend.
Looking after your Veg Bed is very important. Before filling, ensure there is sufficient drainage to prevent waterlogging as this can damage your crops and put excessive strain on the structure. Place the veg bed on a firm and level surface for best results.
During the winter months, the veg bed should be emptied and stored inside. However, if unable to do this use a breathable cover. If there is any significant snowfall, always ensure you remove from the top of your veg bed as it can damage the structure and shorten its lifespan.

Good value and looks good now assembled BUT was a pig to put together. It came as a complete surprise that I had to drill all the holes and work out where to drill the holes. At the very least this should have had markers. Don't buy this unless you are good at DIY! (ONE GARDEN COMMENT: With pressure treated natural timber having a high moisture content and therefore movement prone to expansion/contraction, it would be unwise to factory predefine pilot holes for screw positions. Bolt holes are always factory pre-drilled as tolerance there is possible, however it is good practice with the placement of any woodscrew to create a 'pilot hole' to start by bradawl or drill to reduce the likelihood of splitting.)

Although I have read reviews which said the wood on these vegtrugs was of poor quality, we didn't find that to be the case: it was solid and clean. We started by following the instruction sheet but it proved really difficult to do it that way, so eventually we decided to attach the top sides to the ends first, then the middle sides, then the bottom slat. The wood is very hard, so pre-drilling makes construction a lot quicker and easier. Many holes were pre-drilled, but several were misaligned and required re-drilling in the right places. Assembling the trug without a drill would be nigh on impossible. The legs have to be screwed on from the inside, so pre-drilling holes for those was a bit hit and miss but with some measuring we got there in the end. Make sure you assemble the leg parts the right way round, so it's not standing 'en pointe'. It's a very heavy trug, and is hard to lift once assembled. It doesn't come with a thick plastic sheet lining, so I'll have to get some sheeting and staple-gun that on then puncture the base to provide drainage. I'd say it's strong enough to last at least 5 years, if not longer. It's ideal for my elderly mum, for whom gardening has become difficult, as she can tend her salad crops and herbs without having to bend down.

Quite pleased with the veg bed; I bought it to grow herbs. It is exactly as the description says. You need about three and half bags of compost to fill it; I used empty compost bags to line it. I haven’t had the container long enough to say how durable it will be. Definitely needs two people to put it together. It is also easier to assemble if you have the correct tools; an electric screwdriver would have been an advantage. Would have given it five stars if there had been an option to have the veg bed assembled.
