A tongue & groove boarding offering a smooth planed finish. Each upper face is shaped with a shallow curve to offer a shiplap, overlapping appearance.
Description
The Shire Balsam Arbour is an attractive bench-seated arbour featuring a gothic style roof, enclosed rear and side panels. The structure is freestanding but can also be placed against a wall or fence if chosen.
The main panels and roof of the arbour are made from tongue and groove boards on a 34x34mm framing for added strength. Full instructions will be supplied upon delivery, along with all the fixtures and fittings needed to install the arbour.

This is very much a kit for making an Arbour. I needed a skilled friend to assist with building the Arbour, but it still took about 3 hours. Noticed some minor quality issues as it was put together. It needs to be treated which will take at least an hour per coat and will need 2 coats with a minimum 3 hours between coats. The construction will therefore take a large chunk out of a weekend. If you have a busy life this may not be the right choice for you. As it sat in bits in my garage I regretted buying it. I would have preferred to have bought a pre-constructed Arbour locally. A proper review can of course only be given after assessing the durabilty of the Arbour over a period of years. A lot will depend on how well it is treated. I used Cuprinol which required 2 coats, then another in 3 months and then annually.

The Arbour looks really good, very pleased with it and nice and solid for the price. Only a couple of gripes, having to drill your own holes was annoying, pre-drilled holes would have made it easier and the instructions being printed out so small you needed a magnifying glass. Also the roof sits behind the back wall without actually joining it which is a little odd but with a small modification we managed to bring it forward so it sat on top of the back panel eliminating the gap.
